The aim of this webinar is to increase awareness of the enhanced risks to effective boundaries in complex trauma counselling and suggest strategies to transform risk into opportunity.

By participating in this professional development webinar, learners will:

  • Review their knowledge on boundaries in clinical practice more broadly, reflecting on their own professional learning and how they explain boundaries to clients
  • Identify what the client brings to counselling, what the practitioner experiences, and the combined impact of this on relational depth, and on challenges in setting and sustaining boundaries.
  • Discuss the four pillars of effective and compassionate boundary practice in complex trauma counselling.

This webinar is designed for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists and social workers supporting complex trauma clients, and is informed by current research, practice wisdom and lived and living experience.

The session explores the later stages of the three-phased approach to trauma treatment. Phase 2 (Trauma Processing) focuses on the application of strategies for safe therapeutic work informed by an understanding of traumatic memory. The training also explores Phase 3 (Integration), supporting practitioners to strengthen their skills in helping clients integrate their trauma experiences into their broader life story.

The session explores the importance of a phased approach when working therapeutically with complex trauma, with a primary focus on Phase 1: Safety and Stabilisation. Participants will gain essential knowledge and practical tools to support safety, stability and therapeutic engagement, strengthening their capacity to support recovery for clients impacted by complex trauma.

This training explores dissociation as a continuum, from common experiences in everyday life through to more complex trauma-related dissociation. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of how dissociation can present in people impacted by complex trauma and how it may emerge within therapeutic work, supporting therapists to work safely and effectively with dissociation in therapeutic settings.
